Imagine a world where people are friends with all feelings. Where people have tools to be connected, supported, awake with compassion for self & one another. What would happen?
When Daniel Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence (EQ) book became a bestseller in 1995, he wrote about two models he’d seen in the world for how to educate the skills of EQ – one is called Self-Science, created by Six Seconds’ founders. Over the next years, we kept getting calls from people:
“I read this book and love it, but it doesn’t say HOW. How do you grow and apply emotional intelligence?”
In 1997, Anabel Jensen, Karen McCown & I started Six Seconds to answer that question. Six Seconds was born to make emotional intelligence practical & actionable. For us, it’s not a “theory to know,” it’s a process to use, a way of engaging to be smarter with feelings. To turn emotions into allies so we can all be and do better.
So far, we’ve grown a community of changemakers in over 150 countries, and together we’ve supported over 7.5 million people to practice emotional intelligence (EQ). Other milestones include…

75 deeply dedicated team members (check out the new bios!) spanning 16 countries, plus 100s of volunteers & 1000s of active practitioners in 150 countries plus world-class partners = a community of equipped & supported to grow EQ everywhere – each starting with ourselves,
